When City-Blocks go to war, mayhem is all you can score.
Release Date: To be Confirmed via Barney
Background: It is the 22nd Century and in the vast overcrowded Mega-City One, the populace are crammed into mile high tower blocks. Each one is a city in its own right, with hospitals, shopping malls and parks. And it is said that a citizen may be born, live and die in their block without ever leaving it.
But sadly, these are not sky high utopias. For citizens suffer almost total unemployment, boredom is rife and fear of crime is high. This explosive mix of frustrations and urges finds many outlets, in short-lived fashions, crazes and, occasionally more fatally in block war.
The Game: Now you take the role of a Mega-City block and fight in your own block war, dishing out the ultra-violence from the relatively safe perspective of your dining room table trying to inflict some serious damage on the other blocks and their reputation. The only hazards you will face will be fast paced excitement, spilled cups of synthi-caf, your partner wanting to set the dinner and a knock on the door from the judges. The game is for 2-4 players (though there's no reason you couldn't play more) and features many of the crazed citizens of Mega City One. Of course the judges don't ignore a block war for long!
Contents: Block board, Plaza board, Unit counters, rules and FAQ. You will require a couple of six-sided dice :)
Designer's Notes: It's hard to underestimate how much an imapct Judge Dredd has had on me and many others of my generation. It's simply the greatest British comic achievement, thanks largely to writer John Wagner. Block War is a fan game I devised in 2007 to simulate block wars in Mega City One, home of top lawman Judge Dredd. There have been Block War games before, and porobably will be more still, but I wanted to have a game that got right into the action and included all the crazy elements of Mega City One. What you see here is the basic game. There are rules or plans for rules for almost every aspect of Mega City One. Getting the time to work on it is another matter, but if it garners enough interest I may well be tempted to do some more work on the game. The game is respectfully dedicated to all the writers and artists over the years that have made Judge Dredd the comic strip what it is.
